CONTROL POINT AT THE EDGE OF THE FOREST
Impressive bedrock and pinewood surround the house which is the home of a family of four in Espoo. The three-year-old home is the fulfilment of all dreams.
Light floods in through the large upper floor windows. Harmonious interior decor with light-coloured surfaces magnifies the effect of light. The windows open up to the alternating views of pine forest and bedrock.
When the youngest child in the family was on the way, Eeva and Sami Mäki-Petäys started to seriously think of building a house. On the internet Sami accidentally came across a page telling about the lottery of residential plots by the City of Espoo.
After reading the map and making a field trip they found just the right plot. Now the family only had to wait and see how lucky they would be.
Finding the right architect
A few months later the family received a much awaited letter which was sent to the 200 luckiest applicants. In the plot lottery, the Mäki-Petäys family had ended up ranking sixth among the 1,800 applicants.
Eeva and Sami Mäki-Petäys also found the right architect when they happened to meet Tero Seppänen, Architect SAFA, from Doventus Architectural and Engineering Office, in a building exhibition.
"It was his reliability that made us convinced. We soon started to work together", Eeva Mäki-Petäys says.
Life in peaceful Kuurinniitty is ideal for this family who is very active in sports. Eeva, whose hobbies include orienteering, appreciates the versatile options that are available for outdoor activities and the jogging tract that begins from her own backyard. The children in the family also have playmates in the neighbourhood.
